Refinishing
"A very affordable method for home improvement ... but be careful," says
in Concord, "because all the intensive labor hours can add up quickly.
Here what’s involved: Refinishing cabinets involves hard work if done properly.
All the hardware (handles, knobs, hinges, etc.) must be removed. The old
finish has to be sanded down to the bear wood and cleaned. Stain is then
applied very carefully and thoroughly. After all the stain is dried, the wood
is then wiped down, a sealer is applied, the wood is re-stained and then
clear-coated. The problem is refinishing is a messy process. Utilizing the
same doors and drawers typically doesn’t deliver the new kitchen look,
and the end result is that your still stuck having your "out-dated" looking
kitchen with only with a new color stain or finish.
Refacing
Refacing cabinets is quite affordable especially when compared to buying
new cabinets. It involves replacing the old with brand new custom drawers
and hardware of your choice. We also cover old cabinet surfaces with 1/4"
matching wood veneers with mitered corners so your cabinets look like a
brand new kitchen. "You never see any of your old cabinetry from the
outside." Also, by replacing and adding some new accessories
(moldings, shelves, roll-out trays and new drawer boxes with euro slides,
cabinets. Then, all of the exposed cabinet surfaces are resurfaced and
color matched to your preference. More exorbitant changes made to your
kitchen can include things like increasing your cabinet space, new flooring,
appliances such as a built-in microwaves, or even changing the layout of
your kitchen by adding an island.
